II. Ginkgo Biloba – Life Force – Mystic
Genus: Ginkgo – Family: Ginkgoaceae
Ginkgo’s appearance reminds us to use our intuition and desire to tap into the innate wisdom of our primordial life-force energy.
The ginkgo tree or Maidenhair tree is a deciduous tree that is native to China. Ginkgos are considered living fossils that date back 270 million years and can live to be 1000-2500 years old. It is the only living species in the division Ginkgophyta;all others are extinct.
The life force of ginkgo is best demonstrated by several trees that were planted in Hiroshima, Japan during the 1850s that survived the atomic bomb dropped in 1945. They stand today as a testament of the endurance and strength of the ginkgo’s spirit. Ginkgo’s appearance signals a time to stand our ground and reconnect to our desire to live life to its fullest.
The word biloba refers to the unique shape of ginkgo’s leaves as bi, or “two” lobed. This relates to the concept of diversity and unity, and how we are stronger when we can see our self as an individual and as part of the whole. Remembering that we are uniquely one is an intrinsic aspect of the ginkgo.
Ginkgo’s are large trees that can grow to be 160 feet tall. It is a deeply rooted tree that makes it resistant to wind and snow damage. During fall, the leaves turn a bright yellow and will sometimes fall within a short space of time creating a rain-like effect on those fortunate to be walking by.
When we imagine ourselves as a tree we can feel our feet growing roots that reach into the core of our earth. We can raise our arms as if they are branches that touch the sky. By sensing that we are also the trunk of the tree we can connect with the present moment. By allowing ourselves to feel how our primal life force energy flows through us, we can begin to connect with everything around us yet retain our uniqueness. This sense of interdependence feeds our core and reminds us that we are not alone on our journey.
Message: The Ginkgo signals a time of manifestation and owning our creative power. By connecting with our life-force energy, we can harness the elements of nature to accomplish our goals. This is a powerful and positive time to transform and transition. Meditation and concentration will be needed to focus this energy to bring about change that is beneficial for all.
Challenge: Feeling depleted, ungrounded and disconnected. Trying to flee from reality by creating indecision and the illusion that there are limited choices is fruitless. Reconnect with life.
